Study on the Diagnosis of Ischemic Heart Disease by Thallium-201 Myocardial Imaging

Abstract

|
The exercise T1-201 myocardial imaging was performed in 11 normal persons(46.917.5 yr) and 52 patients (57. 19.6 yr) with chest pain (17 patients of old myocardial infarction, 14 patients of typical angina, and 21 patients of atypical angina). The quantitative assay was carried out in each patient.
The T1-201 myocardial uptake in 11 normal persons showed a homogeneous uptake. All 17 patients with old myocardial infarction showed abnormal scans, among whom 13 patients showed persistent defects(PD) and 4 patients showed reversible defects(RD). 13 out of 14 patients with typical angina showed abnormal images, among whom 12 patients showed RD and one patient showed PD. Ten out of 21 patients with atypical angina showed abnormal .images, among whom 6 showed PD and 4 showed RD.
The T1-201 myocardial imaging was abnormal in 30 out of 31 patients with either myo-cardial infarction or typical angina (sensitivity of 96.8%2), while exercise EKG was positive in 51.70 of the same patient group.
The T1-201 myocardial imaging was considered to be a very sensitive and a useful test in the diagnosis of the patients with coronary artery disease.
